Gold hits new record/European stock markets experience organic growth

European stocks rose on Wednesday, following a series of strong corporate results the day before.

In Europe, shares of Netherlands-based ASML, which makes equipment used in the production of artificial intelligence chips, rose after the company reported promising results on Wednesday.

Shares rose more than 4% after Europe's largest company by market value reported third-quarter profits boosted by the artificial intelligence boom. ASML shares have risen almost 50% since August.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, French multinational luxury group LVMH said its organic growth returned to positive territory in the third quarter. Shares in the luxury giant were up more than 14% by 1 p.m.

Major European stock exchanges were also up, except for London's FTSE 100, which lost 0.43%. Meanwhile, Frankfurt's DAX gained less than 0.1%. Milan's FTSE MIB rose 0.36%, Madrid's Ibex 35 gained 0.71% and the STOXX 600 saw a rise of 0.6%.

Gold continued its rise, reaching a high of $4,217 an ounce. Gold has risen over 60% in 2025 as investors seek a safe haven during a period of uncertainty, driven particularly by US tariffs and trade tensions. /CNA
