4 years after the Russian invasion/ How have energy prices changed in Europe?

For four years, since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, electricity and natural gas prices in Europe have fluctuated greatly.

This is also due to supply disruptions, import diversification, and new energy market policies in the EU.

For family subscribers, prices have remained high compared to the pre-war period.

Some countries in Europe pay much more than the European average, while in other countries prices have decreased thanks to government support and the growth of renewable energy.

Natural gas prices rose in the first years after the invasion due to reduced supplies from Russia. However, with the diversification of sources, e.g. the import of LNG, liquefied natural gas from the US and other countries, some European countries have managed to reduce the annual price.

Reducing Russian gas imports and the search for alternatives has shifted markets towards other gas sources. Investments in renewable energy have helped stabilize electricity prices in some countries.

Because of these changes, some European countries have seen costs fall for domestic users, while many others still suffer from high prices. For consumers in many EU countries, energy prices remain higher than before 2022.

The European economy has adapted its energy supply and demand, although costs for household consumers and businesses continue to reflect the consequences of the war-torn energy crisis, now in its fifth year./CNA
