The explanation for this is relatively simple. The clouds above our heads are formed by water vapor evaporated from the Earth's surface. During the spring transition from colder to warmer temperatures, the air around us heats up. Cold and dry winter air combines with warm and humid summer air.

The mixing of temperatures causes this air to rise and moisture to leave in the form of rain.

This brings a particularly wet spring season in the Northern Hemisphere, due to a combination of ideal temperature conditions, proximity to mountain ranges and prevailing winds. And then when summer comes, spring rains turn to occasional showers as temperatures rise.
