The Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, His Holiness Kirill, sent a letter of congratulations to the new Archbishop John.

In his letter, the Patriarch of Moscow congratulated Archbishop Joan while emphasizing that from this position His Beatitude has been chosen to care for the unity of the Church and to zealously defend the purity of faith and the foundations of the Church, which in today's difficult times requires special wisdom and great courage.

“I sincerely congratulate you on your election as Primate of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania! The Providence of God, by the will of the Holy Synod (of the Church of Albania), placed you at the head of the martyred church, making you the successor of the late blessed Archbishop Anastasios. From this position you are called to care for the unity of the Church, zealously defending the purity of the faith and the foundations of the Church, which in today's difficult times requires special wisdom and great courage. I pray fervently for you and with all my heart I wish that the grace of the Holy Spirit will always strengthen your spiritual and physical strength, so that through your labors the word of God may be spread and glorified.
