The Constitutional Court has decided not to review the issue of the election of the People's Advocate, a complaint filed by the Democratic Party.

The Democrats had requested a finding of incompatibility with the Constitution of the Assembly's decision to elect the Ombudsman, as well as his immediate suspension from office until a final decision on the merits.

According to them, the voting process was in violation of procedures, as some of the DP deputies had withdrawn the signatures previously provided in support of the candidacy.

Initially, Democratic MPs had signed in favor of the candidacy, but then officially requested the withdrawal of the signatures.

The Socialists did not accept this withdrawal and brought the matter to a vote in the plenary session, where the candidacy received 85 votes in favor and was approved.

The DP argued that similar precedents have occurred before, specifically in July 2022, when according to it, the majority had accepted the withdrawal of signatures.

For this reason, the opposition turned to the Constitutional Court, describing the process as illegal and contrary to the Constitution./ CNA
