The Albanian police officer, arrested the day before at the Mendara border crossing by the Kosovo Police, has been suspended from duty after being caught with 1 million euros at the Merdara border.

Officer Aurel Kaziu served at Police Station No. 5 in Tirana. He was suspended from duty by the Directorate of Professional Standards in the State Police.

According to the official Customs announcement, the incident occurred on February 24, 2026, when a vehicle entering the territory of Kosovo was selected for detailed inspection, based on risk analysis and standard operating procedures.

The vehicle was initially inspected through an X-ray scanning device, where indications of a suspicious modified area in the floor were noted. After this, Customs requested assistance from the Border Police, which provided technical support with fiberoptic equipment.

During the joint inspection, it was confirmed that undeclared monetary assets were hidden inside the improvised space. /CNA
