The saga of delays continues / The hearing for Veliaj is postponed again

The saga of the protracted legal proceedings against the mayor, Erion Veliaj, arrested on 13 serious charges, continues.

The Kyrebashkiak, already known for his tactics, has not gone to court for about 9 months to face justice, with the facts and evidence found by investigators, who have charged him with 13 charges for 5 serious criminal offenses, corruption, abuse of office, laundering the proceeds of a criminal offense, concealing property and introducing illegal items into a detention cell.

The Special Court of Appeals has postponed until April 29 the consideration of an appeal by Erion Veliaj on the annulment of a First Instance decision to suspend pre-trial detention terms.

Since his arrest in February 2025, Veliaj has, from his Durrës prison cell, used the media to direct a campaign of attacks against justice, the prosecutors and judges involved in the case.

His attack schemes have gone as far as lobbying $220,000, filling reports with fraud and lies, all of which have been debunked, revealing the scenarios of the mayor and the media paid by him to exert pressure on justice./ CNA
