A wide list of medicines have experienced price increases starting in January of this year.

Some of them have even seen an increase of more than 100 percent. A widely used antibiotic like Cefazolin has seen an increase of about 4,000 percent starting today.

But the price hike doesn't end there. There are dozens of other medicines that will see their prices increase by up to 97% compared to 2025. Since January 1, the National Medicines Center has started issuing new drug stamps, which are several times more expensive for patients.

The Ministry of Health, based on the decision of the Council of Ministers, has determined the new prices at which medicines will be sold for 2026, which are significantly more expensive than a year ago. This list has been changed twice within 2 weeks and was published on Saturday.

Metformin, a drug used to treat type 2 diabetes, has also seen a price increase starting this Saturday. According to data from the Ministry of Health, the price of this product produced in North Macedonia has increased by 2,000%.

Tobradex, a medication that previously cost 300 lek, will be sold according to the new list provided by Piranjat News at about 97% more.

"Remsima", an anti-inflammatory drug for adults, has experienced price changes of 97%.

According to official data, several products containing Gadoteric Acid (meglumine salt), used as a solution for injection, have seen increases ranging from 13% to 62%, depending on packaging and dosage. The highest increase for this group was observed in the 15 ml packaging, where the price increased by about 62%.

Meanwhile, one of the largest increases is observed in Infliximab, powder for concentrate for infusion (100 mg/vial), where the price has changed from 121.75 to 240.00, marking an increase of about 97%.

In addition to the published list, other medicines have also experienced price increases. Minitran (pictured below) from 380 lekë last year now costs a full 1369 lekë, an increase of more than double the price last year. /CNA
