About 40% of employed Albanians claimed to have lifted or carried heavy objects, loads or people, without the aid of a machine, in 2023.
This is more than the average values ??in the other five countries of the Western Balkans (WB5 37%) and the EU (34%), evidences the European Survey on Skills and Jobs that was conducted for the second time in Albania in 2023.
The results showed that men are much more likely to engage in such manual tasks than women (47% vs. 27%), as well as older workers compared to younger ones (48% of those aged 55-64). despite 28% of those aged 25-34).

More than half of workers in manual and basic occupations (53% and 50%, respectively) answer this question positively, compared to 30% of those in semi-skilled occupations and 18% of those in unskilled occupations. qualified.
Lifting objects and loads is also more common among respondents working in agriculture or industry (50%), 36% of those working in services and 22% of respondents from the public sector, education or health.

Three in ten (29%) Albanian respondents report that they work in an environment with heat or very cold temperatures, chemicals or dangerous parts, roughly in line with EU (27%) and WB5 (32%) averages.
Additionally, nearly half (46%) of Albanians say they use or move their hands or fingers to grasp, manipulate, or precisely assemble objects (excluding computer mouse, keyboard typing, or handwriting), roughly in line with the WB5 average (51%), but significantly more than in the EU-27 (38%).
A minority of Albanians use computerized machines. About one in five (21%) Albanians say they use computerized machines, compared to nearly four in ten (39%) in the EU, and three in ten (28%) in the WB5.
Just over one in ten (12%) respondents in Albania say they use handheld digital devices such as monitors or scanners used for stock control and order processing, compared to double that figure (26%) across the EU -in and about one in five (17%) in WB-5.
Only (1%) indicate that they work with robots or use 3D printers (6%). A similar percentage of respondents (5%) report working with computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines, for example lathes or milling machines (9% in EU, 5% in WB5) and 2% report using logical operators of programmable (OLPs) (8% in EU and 3% in WB5./ Monitor.al
