U.S. citizens should enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program at step.state.gov to receive security updates and notifications directly from the United States Embassy.

The Smart Traveler Registration Program (STEP) is a free service that allows U.S. citizens and nationals to register their travel abroad so that the State Department can contact them accurately and quickly in the event of an emergency.

Benefits:

Updates are received regarding health, weather, safety and security for their destination.

Advance planning using information from the local US embassy.
