"No reaction from the BoA for 5 months"/ Këlliçi: Lack of

Democratic Party MP Belind Këlliçi has reacted to the lack of response from the Bank of Albania on the licensing of the first digital bank in the country, Jet Bank.

Këlliçi writes that the Bank of Albania is not fulfilling its legal obligation to citizens and the Parliament by not providing any information.

He states that despite the DP's insistence on the issue, there is no transparency from the BoA and Governor Gent Sejko.

The MP emphasizes that they have no official or public debate with Jet Bank, but demand transparency from the institutions of the Albanian state, which according to him have the obligation to implement the legal framework in force.

Këlliçi says, among other things, that any concealment and attempt to evade transparency increases doubts about the Jet Bank licensing process.

Full post:

It has been 5 months since we have been publicly and officially demanding transparency regarding the licensing of a bank in the Republic of Albania, and the responsible authorities are silent!

How is it possible that the Bank of Albania does not fulfill this legal obligation to citizens and to the Parliament by not providing exhaustive information on the licensing of the first digital bank, Jet Bank?!

The Central Bank is hiding behind the law “On the Protection of Personal Data” or information classified as “SECRET.” As if we are dealing with the opening of a store, or a currency exchange unit.

Yesterday, together with 6 fellow MPs from the Democratic Party, we addressed the Governor of the Bank of Albania with another official letter requesting an exhaustive and complete explanation for this licensing, as Albanians are now clear that where Rilindja uses the word "SECRET", another serious affair is hidden.

The banking sector is one of the most important sectors of the economy and the security of citizens, in a delicate terrain and at a time when our country is required to combat phenomena such as money laundering, precisely at a moment like this, comes the sudden introduction to the market and launch of a digital bank.

We have repeatedly asked whether our institutions have conducted the verifications and analysis required by the applicable regulatory framework, and whether they have properly screened the beneficiary or beneficiaries of this license.

Who is behind Jet Bank, does it meet those criteria and do they have any past problems with the law in the field of Forex, online fraud and extortion schemes, which would make anyone seeking to operate in this market absolutely unqualified.

The Bank and the Governor continue to fail to provide full transparency, despite our insistence.

Jet Bank reacts in their place, just like it did today!!!

We have no official or public debate with this subject, but we are demanding transparency from the institutions of the Albanian state, which have the obligation to implement the legal framework in force and to be transparent as their main goal is to protect the interests of Albanian citizens.

Any concealment, any attempt to evade transparency, burdens the Bank of Albania and every other institution involved in this licensing with more responsibility, making this process even more suspicious.

We are dealing with a high public interest and we are dealing with the safety of citizens.

The Governor is not in a position to optionally address this issue, but has an OBLIGATION to provide full and exhaustive transparency.

The role and responsibility of this constitutional institution, such as the Bank of Albania, cannot be carried out by a private operator, as the Governor cannot be transformed into an ordinary employee or subordinate of a private entity, as was presented to us today by this entity...

Be transparent! /CNA
