Preparing municipalities for the tourist season/ Demo: Improvements in waste

The Minister of State for Local Government, Ervin Demo, held a media conference today, where he also spoke about the tourist season and the preparation of municipalities.

Demo stated that municipalities are collaborating with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism for primary services, mainly cleaning.

Among other things, the minister said that there is still much to improve in terms of waste management, which according to him should not be only seasonal.

"We have municipalities today where the tourist season no longer stops. Municipalities are working closely with the government, the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Tourism, especially when it comes to primary services such as cleaning. The government continues to support municipalities for this service. But we must admit that there is much to improve in terms of waste management. This should not be seasonal but should be an approach. We are discussing with the Ministry of Environment and municipalities to build a more sustainable model regarding waste throughout the territory.

We must guarantee that within a suitable period of time, the coverage of the territory is 100% done by the municipality. It is challenging and costly, but there is no other solution. We are working on a sustainable model from a financial point of view. All municipalities have started cleaning the seashores and lakes. Albania already has a tourism that affects the entire territory. Municipalities are working to ensure that the entire road network is in the right conditions for the season and the residents. The coordination of work between municipalities and ministries is a job that is done to achieve synergy between the actors and to have the most successful season possible” , Demo said. /CNA
