Today's plenary session in the Parliament has begun, where the agenda includes voting on a resolution to declare Iran a state sponsor of terrorism.

The head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, stated that the fight against terrorism is a battle for preserving global peace and stability. Among other things, he said that Albania itself has been the target of several cyber attacks by Iran and added that this resolution aims to address precisely this reality.

"Today, the Assembly has been invited to discuss and adopt a resolution proposed by the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, which is related to the most important issues of global security. Terrorism is not just an act of violence, it is a deliberate strategy to destabilize the democratic order. It strikes civilians and democratic principles. The fight against terrorism is not just a security issue. It is a battle to preserve international peace and stability. Albania has always chosen to live on the side of international order. As a member of NATO, Albania has an obligation to contribute to international order and security.

For Albania, it is not just a geopolitical issue. The attack that occurred in 2022 on the institutions of the Republic of Albania was one of the attacks on a sovereign country. A few days ago, the Parliament was the target of a cyber attack. These are genuine hostile acts that target the normal functioning of the state. The resolution aims to address precisely this reality. The resolution calls on the government to declare the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and Hezbollah as terrorist organizations. The US declared it several years ago and the European Union has also done so , "said Balla. /CNA
