Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting today with 40 rectors of public and private universities. During his speech, Rama stated that the law on higher education should be reviewed. According to him, this will be possible to do at a reasonable time without waiting for the next parliamentary session.
"I want to touch on a few points that, in my opinion, are important. Sincerely appreciating the cooperation we have built and the continuity of communication in both an institutional and an open informal way, which has given us the opportunity to be in contact with each other and to understand more, it is time to revisit the law on higher education. A sufficient period has passed to reflect the changes that time has brought. Fortunately, we have a good practice, the current law was written in cooperation with you with your contribution, so this will be the case again. I hope and believe, both because of the experience and because this time it is about corrections, that it will be possible to do this in a reasonable time and we will not wait for the next session of parliament for the basis of the changes. It is important to organize a working group to write the changes ," said the Prime Minister.
The head of government further stated that the University of Tirana is currently at the forefront of a series of universities that have increased their funding capacity outside the state budget.
"There has been a significant change in the university's approach. In the approach to financing. Today, the University of Tirana is at the forefront of a series of universities that have increased their financing capacity outside the state budget. They have achieved this by setting up teams and establishing European partnerships. And by benefiting from European funds. I would like us to gather at the next meeting to openly discuss this process. I would also like to invite the rectors of private universities. The challenge is to reorganize them into a more competitive system. The university is the most important ally of the country's institutions. We need to appreciate this capacity more", said Rama. /CNA
