Smuggling of goods worth 2.1 million euros/ SPAK condemns criminal group

Eight people were convicted by SPAK after a session that lasted more than five hours. Sokol Idrizaj and his family were convicted of the criminal offense of "smuggling of goods", "failure to declare income" and "exercising financial activities without a license".

In May of last year, Sokol Idrizaj, a former driver at the Ministry of Interior, his wife, and the couple's two daughters were indicted by SPAK, as suspected members of a criminal group.

These citizens are suspected of having transported stolen and valuable items from the French state to Albania, where they secretly sold them and smuggled them through the jewelry store of citizen Vangjush Kashara in Tirana.

SPAK's verifications showed that these groups, which were operating before 2019, transferred 724,386 euros to France for the purchase of items, a figure that only pertains to banking transactions, while the cash amounts that were illegally transported across the state border amounted to 2.1 million euros and 35,000 francs.

Thus, Agustin Mesulin, Altin Doda and Florian Baku were sentenced to 11 years in prison, but the shortened trial will reduce them to 7.5 years in prison. Sokol Idrizaj and his wife, Elda, were sentenced to 8 years in prison, and the shortened trial reduced this sentence to 5.7 years in prison. Egi Idrizaj, Sokol Idrizaj's eldest daughter, was sentenced to 7 years in prison, the shortened trial reduced the sentence to 4.7 years in prison, while a suspended sentence with probation was applied.

Bora Idrizaj, the younger daughter of Sokol Idrizaj, was sentenced to two years in prison and was also given probation. Tomorr Baruti was sentenced to two years in prison, with a shortened sentence of 1.4 years, while a suspended probation was applied. Meanwhile, Vangjush Kasharra was found not guilty of the crime of "hiding income".  /CNA
