Journalist Klodiana Lala has shared details regarding an event that occurred in Durrës, where she said several eavesdropping devices were seized.

Lala said that the equipment was brought into Albania by three Italian citizens, two of them Guardia di Finanza employees, who were stopped at the port of Durres as they were about to board the Durres-Ancona ferry.

Invited to "The Unexposed" with Ylli Rakipi, the journalist said that the equipment is blocked and is expected to undergo an examination. Meanwhile, she announced that the police have not had an official reaction to the incident, while the three Italians have been allowed to go to Italy.

"An event that has not received attention in the media, I do not understand why. It is about a major scandal that is being consumed in the territory of Albania. The devices are sophisticated interception devices, they are in the premises of the Durrës Prosecutor's Office. I became aware on Saturday, it was confirmed to me that some people had traveled by ferry on the Bari-Durres line, they had arrived on Friday at the Port of Durres. In their vehicle, according to trusted sources, there are three Italian citizens, they entered Albania, they stayed 12-13 hours, it is thought that they carried out illegal, unauthorized interceptions, there was no joint team, after they had finished the work, these citizens were detained when they were about to take the Durrës-Ancona ferry. 

They introduced themselves as Guardia di Finanza employees. Two of them turned out to be real. It is not known whether they had authorization from their superiors. The third person was contacted and was taken by Guardia officials to use the equipment. They were questioned, and all three were allowed to leave for Italy.

The devices are blocked and are expected to undergo an examination. The prosecution has appointed a prosecutor. The police have referred him, there is no official reaction, they have secretly sent him to the prosecution for two offenses, illegal wiretapping and the introduction of contraband goods.

We have had a history of suspicious eavesdropping devices, if you remember, it was the IMSI Catcher device, which was suspected of being used in prisons. An Israeli was arrested. There have been two other cases of people being blocked at the entrance or exit. The specific case is worrying because two people are from the Guardia di Finanza, they are moving for members of organized crime or politicians who may be related to organized crime. Who was eavesdropped, what was the itinerary, and what happened to the eavesdropping results, this answer must be given by the prosecution. The authorities are keeping quiet, the scandal is getting bigger. 

"Why were these people allowed to leave? They could have been kept at least with their passports blocked until the equipment was examined ," Lala said. /CNA
