The Municipality of Pogradec has issued a clarification regarding complaints from several private entities regarding the lack of public space for beaches on the lakeshore.
Based on the statement, this municipality describes these positions as baseless and untrue allegations.
According to the Municipality of Pogradec, it is not at all correct that public beach areas have been truncated or alienated to favor private entities.
"Only in the segment of the sandy beach from Hotel Enkelana to the public baths, a total of five public spaces are foreseen, which are identified on the relevant map (see photos, public beaches in red) and include the plots:
PG-34 (public); PG-34/2 (public); PG-35 – 50 m linear (public); PG-36/1 – 22 m linear (public); PG-36/2 – 20 m linear (public)
From a total length of 185 linear meters of beach, (from toys to public bathrooms) the segment is divided as follows:
92.5 linear meters of public beach; 82.5 linear meters of private beach; 10 linear meters of space dedicated to pedal boats.
So, as the figures clearly show, the public area is larger than the private area, even though it is one of the most sought-after areas by tourist operators during the summer season.
The Municipality of Pogradec and the structures responsible for beach administration have been and remain ready to assist any entity in the application procedures for a usage permit, always respecting the fundamental principle of protecting public spaces and the interests of citizens.
For this reason, hasty and unfounded statements about beach administration do not serve the development of tourism in the city nor the interests of businesses operating during the tourist season.
It should be noted that in addition to the aforementioned public spaces, at least 3 other public beaches operate in the rest of the sandy beach near the area known as "Konti". Also, the "Uçkave" beach is completely public, while a significant part of the sandy line towards Drilon remains free for use by citizens and visitors", the statement says. /CNA
