Social network "Twitter Inc." was down for thousands of users across the globe on Thursday, the first such outage since February, according to the tracking website Downdetector.com.

There have been more than 27,000 incidents of people reporting problems with Twitter in the United States, according to the website. Users in other countries, including the United Kingdom, Mexico, Brazil and Italy also reported that Twitter was not working.

Individuals trying to use the social media platform were faced with a message that said “Tweets are not loading right now. Try again."

It was not clear what caused the outage. Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment, REL said.

Twitter in February suffered an outage that suspended services for several thousand of its users. Later, she said she fixed a software bug on her micro-blogging site.

The outage comes days after Twitter sued Tesla CEO Elon Musk for breaching a $44 billion deal to acquire the company.

Twitter asked a Delaware court to order the world's richest man to complete the $54 per share purchase of Twitter. /CNA.al
