Instagram and Facebook without ads?

Facebook and Instagram are launching subscriptions in much of Europe that will remove ads from the platforms, Reuters reports.

People using Meta-owned platforms will be able to pay €9.99 (£8.72) a month for an ad-free experience.

In January, Meta was fined 390 million euros for violating EU rules on advertising data.

The regulator said at the time that the firm could not "enforce consent" by saying consumers must agree to how their data is used or leave the platforms.

The subscription tier will be exclusive to people in the EU, the European Economic Area and Switzerland from November.

But it will only be accessible to people over 18 at first.

The service will cost an additional 3 euros per month if paid on iOS or Android, to account for additional fees charged by these platforms./ CNA
