Manchester United player Mason Greenwood is set to be released from prison after being handed a suspended sentence at a private court hearing.

The 21-year-old Englishman, who was not present, appeared in court on Monday and was formally charged with attempted rape, coercive behavior and assault, and despite these charges he was bailed pending a further trial on 21 november

The footballer's lawyers were able to change the order and after a private hearing at Manchester Crown Court, they were able to secure bail. The player will be released no later than today on the same conditions, not to contact the victim, an old ex-boyfriend. It was in breach of this condition that he was arrested again last Saturday and appeared before a judge on Monday.

The offenses for which Mason Greenwood is accused took place between 2018 and 2022, with one case of coercive conduct. He was first arrested in January (also suspended by United) and later released from prison.
