Italy was left out, Serie A also disappoints in the World Cup

The 2026 World Cup statistics confirm a decline in the influence of Serie A players compared to other major European and world leagues.

A total of 66 players from the Italian championship have been selected for this tournament, but their offensive contribution has been limited to only 6 goals scored.

The authors of these achievements are Jonathan David with three goals and Leo Ostigard with one goal, both in the matches against Qatar, as well as Martin Baturina against England and Marcus Pedersen against Senegal.

In the overall productivity ranking, Serie A is behind the Premier League, Bundesliga and La Liga, but is also positioned below championships such as Ligue 1 or MLS.

Among the most notable performances so far has been that of Dutchman Denzel Dumfries, who provided two assists in the 5-1 win over Sweden. However, the winger's departure from Inter after this tournament is seen as another indication of the difficulties the Italian league is facing in retaining its stars.

After Italy's absence from the World Cup, even Serie A players seem to be disappointing.
