Floods in Vau e Dejës/ Residents: Major damage to homes and businesses

Although the situation has improved, the water that flooded the residents of Vau Dejës has left behind extensive damage. One of the residents affected by these floods is Ernest Paluku, who lives near the Glina stream that overflowed its bed and in a few minutes brought a terrible flood.

Paluku says as fast and furious as the water went, the situation could have been even worse for his family.

 "I had 1.5 meters of water in my apartment. The damage was very great. We raised our voices at all levels, including the deputies. This situation happened for 50 minutes, like never before. 2 cars were damaged, I also had a business. The damage is very great. This place has really become uninhabitable," says the resident.

The structures of the Vau Dejës Municipality are assessing the damage and are ready to help the flooded families.

"The situation has improved. The municipality structures are recording the damages. The damages are considerable in terms of domestic animals, livestock, poultry and beekeeping. We are cleaning the Glina stream, a provisional solution because the final solution is the complete rehabilitation of the stream," said Ervis Preçi, deputy mayor of the Vau Dejës Municipality.

Vau Dejësi is the municipality most affected by these floods, but there were also problems from the overflowing of streams in Guri i Zi, Kryebushat and Harku i Bërdicës. /CNA
