"Korça in Pink"/ Parade and awareness activities against breast

As part of October, known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an awareness-raising activity was held in the pedestrian zone of the city of Korça with the participation of dozens of women, girls and employees of health institutions.

The warm atmosphere and the pink colors that prevailed on the boulevard brought the common message of care and love for life. Part of this activity was also a symbolic parade, where the participants conveyed the message "Love life, every day of yours is worth it", calling on women not to neglect their health and to undergo medical check-ups on time.

According to Nada Tërpo, head of primary health care, women's awareness in the Korça region has increased significantly year after year. During October last year alone, over a thousand mammograms were performed, while this year too, the pace of checks continues with 40 to 50 examinations per day. The goal, she emphasized, is for mammograms to be performed not only during October, but throughout the year, as the service is offered every day at the city's polyclinic.

" We see an awareness among women in the Korça district from year to year. Last year, during the month of October, 1067 mammograms were performed and this year, at the same pace, mammograms continue with 40-50 per day. The goal for this awareness is not that these mammograms be performed only in October, but since we have mammography in the polyclinic, to extend it to other months as well ," said Tërpo.

On the other hand, Entela Sulo, specialist at the Local Health Care Unit, emphasized that this activity is part of a series of initiatives being developed during this month to raise awareness among women about the importance of periodic check-ups and breast cancer prevention.

" The Local Health Care Unit, in addition to the numerous activities it carries out during the month of October, today on World Breast Cancer Day, we have all come together under the slogan "Love life, every day of yours is worth it". The purpose of this activity is for us to all be united in raising awareness among all our girls, women, mothers, and sisters about the prevention of this problem ", declared Sulo.

While doctor Flutura Jani emphasized that this moment should serve as an incentive for every woman to take care of herself and not limit check-ups to only the month of October, as early detection can make the difference between treatment and recovery.

" That is precisely why we have gathered today, to encourage ourselves and all women to perform the appropriate health checks on time, as recommended by family doctors. Let's not focus only on this month, but let the checks extend throughout all other months. Let this moment of awareness be worth us thinking about turning to health institutions throughout the year, because breast cancer is indeed cancer, but today with the opportunities offered, it is treatable and curable in many cases ," said the doctor.
