A simple mental exercise for the brain could reduce the risk of developing dementia by about 25% over 20 years, according to a new scientific study.
It's about "information processing speed training" in the brain. In this exercise, people see objects that appear very quickly on the screen and have to identify or click on certain objects, such as cars or traffic signs.
Exercise trains the brain to process information faster and with more attention.
People who did this exercise were 25% less likely to develop dementia after about 20 years.
The benefits were also seen 5, 10 and 20 years later in the study follow-ups.
In the same study, memory exercises and logical reasoning exercises did not show a significant reduction in dementia risk, while brain speed training had a more pronounced effect.
Scientists emphasize that the results are promising, but not conclusive, several factors may affect the study results, and further studies are needed to fully confirm the effect./ CNA
