The World Health Organization has called for vigilance as the number of cases of coronavirus and seasonal flu in Europe is increasing.

"This is not a time for relaxation" , said the director of the WHO for Europe, Hans Kluge, in a press conference, referring to the approach of the winter season.

The 53 countries that the WHO covers in Europe, including Russia and Central Asia, are again the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic, as 60 percent of the cases globally have been registered in them, Kluge said.

At the same time, seasonal cluster cases are approaching their peak.

In this new wave of the coronavirus, the number of deaths or even hospitalization of patients in intensive care is not increasing, which is why the WHO has mentioned the importance of vaccination.

"Vaccination remains one of our most effective ways against seasonal flu and coronavirus ," Kluge said, urging people to get booster doses as soon as possible.

The new coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19, was first reported in December 2019 in Wuhan, China.

The World Health Organization declared the coronavirus as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.

More than 6.5 million people have died since the outbreak of the pandemic worldwide.

The United States has recorded the highest number of victims, followed by India and Brazil./ REL
