For most of us, summer has significant positive benefits for our mental health. Research from the University of Michigan shows that warm, sunny weather actually improves mood and mental health.
As the study's lead author says, being outside and enjoying the beautiful weather gives our brains a chance to return to their normal state. All we need to do is spend at least 30 minutes a day outside to feel better. But why does this happen in the summer?

The benefits of summer for our psychology
Sunlight increases vitamin D levels: Vitamin D is essential for the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, maintaining healthy bones and teeth and providing protection against various diseases.
We become more active: When the sunlight is greater and the temperatures are ideal, we walk, run, bike or swim more. Physical exercise is a natural mood booster, so increasing activity in the summer helps a lot.
We reduce work hours: Many people take time off or work fewer hours in the summer. This provides the opportunity for rest and relaxation, which are important for mental health.
More time with family and friends: Summer allows us to spend quality time with loved ones, which contributes positively to our mental well-being.

When summer brings... anxiety
Despite its positive aspects, for some, summer can bring difficulties, such as seasonal affective disorder (SAD), which does not only occur in winter. Some experience symptoms of depression or anxiety in the spring or summer, often due to changes in routine, sleep, eating habits or restrictions on social life.

What can we do to feel better during the summer?
-Drink enough fluids and avoid excessive use of coffee or alcohol.
-Wear a hat and sunscreen and limit sun exposure during the hottest hours.
-We organize our schedule in such a way that we do our activities early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when it is cooler.
-We try to spend 20 minutes in the sun every day to increase vitamin D.
-We stay social, go out with friends and family, go to outdoor cinemas and enjoy -swimming in the sea.
-Regular physical activity of 30-45 minutes a day will improve our mood.
-We take advantage of the sun to do something that pleases us, such as walking or reading outside. /CNA
