Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa, in a reaction on social networks for International Children's Day, declares that today is the day when we should talk about the alarming reality of children in Albania. Zhupa brought statistics from the Council of Europe and the CRCA on violence against children and the denial of their rights.
Zhupa states that 48% of children under 6 years old live at risk of poverty, 17% of children under 5 years old are obese, and these are a reflection of the reality that requires urgent action.
" Today is International Children's Day, who are the joy of every family but who face many problems in Albania. They are not talked about enough because, just like today, news of government corruption and headlines about investigations occupy the front page everywhere.
However, today is the day when we must speak clearly about the reality of children in Albania and the responsibility we have, as institutions and as a society.
The statistics are alarming:
48% of children under 6 years old live at risk of poverty.
According to the Council of Europe, 77% of children aged 2–14 experience harsh discipline, including physical punishment.
According to the CRCA report, 86% of children feel that their rights are not respected.
17% of children under 5 are obese, a level 3 times higher than the global average.
These are not just numbers. They are reflections of a reality that requires urgent action. The value of just one of the affairs that fill the media would solve the poverty of these children.
As an MP, I remain committed to working for policies that put children at the center, protecting their rights and creating a place where every child grows up safe, healthy and with big dreams.
We must work to: Strengthen child protection laws; provide economic support to families in need, so that no child grows up in poverty; Invest in education, health, and nutrition programs to prevent obesity in children; Strengthen mechanisms for protection from violence in the family and in schools; Also, increase the voice of children in decision-making, guaranteeing them full respect for their rights.
Children are the future of the country.
"If we don't protect them today, we cannot claim a better Albania tomorrow ," Zhupa declares.
Zhupa expresses willingness to work on strengthening laws and increasing economic support for families in need./ CNA
