In Albanian politics, the communist axiom: "Whoever is not with me is against me!" is implemented with unprecedented zeal.
The translation of this logic is even more outrageous: whoever does not work for the legendary leader is automatically working for the Socialist Party.
This mechanism, this way of operating, this excuse for every failure, this clay machine are weapons for every purge.
There is no dissent, no individual dignity. There are only two categories: soldiers and traitors.
And the tragedy is that this is not just rhetoric. It is a political way of life. It is the way in which mediocrity is justified, incompetence is covered up, and every voice and individual who does not fall into line like sheep is eliminated.
Instead of an opposition that thinks, analyzes and builds alternatives, we have an opposition that wastes energy controlling the loyalty of its membership. Anyone who speaks differently is suspicious. Anyone who criticizes is a sellout. Anyone who does not line up behind the leader and hold his or her ground is an enemy. And the "enemy", according to this primitive logic, can never be a democrat, he or she must definitely be a sellout and with the SP.
This is the DP today: a labeling factory. Any different opinion is a crime. Any criticism is treason. Anyone who does not lower their head is declared a public enemy.
It is tragic when the leader, who should be wise and more unifying, is the origin of the mud that is thrown...
This mindset does not weaken the Socialist Party. On the contrary, it nourishes it, strengthens it, and keeps it in power.
Because an opposition that is engaged in witch hunts within its own family has no time to deal seriously and honestly with the government. Such an opposition cannot build a political project. An opposition that sees every critical voice as betrayal ends up becoming a small group of fear, not hope.
It is cynical that this strategy is justified in the name of "the fight against power."
But power is not overthrown by blindly obedient militants. It is overthrown by critical thinking, by open debate, by credible alternatives, and by a political culture that accepts that you are not a traitor just because you don't applaud the leader's every paranoid tale.
You have no ideas? You have no program? You have no credibility? No problem. Declare enemies within the political house, exploit the idealism, sometimes even the stupidity, of your followers and become the commander of a ghost army. Because it is much easier to fight your critics than to face the Socialist Party in reality.
And in the meantime, the government sits back. It doesn't even need to get tired. Because the opposition makes things easier for it. With a dedication that would be admirable, if it weren't so tragic.
Grotesque? Those who shout the most against the Socialist Party are often the biggest contributors to its survival. Not because they want to. But because they don't know any different.
A DP that eats itself cannot overthrow anyone. Some opposition leaders who are worried about the list of "loyalists" are not an alternative to power.
And so, what has been happening for years happens: the SP governs and the opposition helps it. And it is not true that whoever does not work for the opposition works for the SP.
The truth is more bitter: the opposition works (unintentionally, but effectively) for the SP even when it thinks it is fighting against it. /CNA
