Why shouldn't you make your bed in the morning?

Now you have an excuse not to make your bed in the morning. Science says that the sweat we release at night is a giant breeding ground for dust mites. Making your bed untidy can reduce bacteria.

According to Real Simple, studies show that these microscopic insect-like pests feed on dead human skin cells and love to hang out in damp sheets.

"Given that the average person sweats about 500 milliliters a night, your bed environment is the perfect breeding ground for dust mites in the morning," says Martin Seeley, CEO of MattressNextDay.

"That's why it's important to leave the bed clean for at least 30 minutes allowing for better ventilation which helps disperse moisture and reduces the overall dampness in your bed."

All that sweat equates to about 2 cups of moisture, so airing your sheets while delaying your bedding reduces the moisture that helps dust mites grow.

While dust mites don't harm us directly, they can make allergy symptoms worse. This is especially important for those who suffer from asthma.

The American Lung Association reports that dust mites can affect our health in several ways. It is dust mite droppings, feces and urine that cause allergic reactions.

"Continuous exposure to dust mites in the home can affect the health of people with asthma and those who are allergic or sensitive to mites," the organization explains.

"These allergens can cause mild to severe allergic symptoms and can be responsible for asthma attacks. A mild case may cause an occasional runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing.

In severe cases, the condition is persistent, resulting in constant sneezing, coughing, congestion, facial pressure or even a severe asthma attack. People with asthma who are sensitive to dust mites face an increased risk of asthma attacks," says the American Lung Association.

Experts say that if you notice any of these allergic reactions, you may want to stop making your bed as soon as you wake up. Frequently washing sheets in hot water and using a special anti-allergy mattress and pillow protector can also help./ CNA
