Alcohol is killing more women than before, studies show

We are familiar with the fact that men are big consumers of alcohol, so much so that sometimes they overdo it, causing great damage to their health.

However, new research shows that now "women are raising their glass almost as often as men".

A recent study found that 49% of women drank regularly, compared to 55% of men.

It is reported that it is women in their thirties and forties who are drinking more alcohol compared to other ages of the female gender.

Also according to the report, women of these ages drank more than their male peers.

Addiction psychiatry specialist at the University of Miami Miller School of Health, Dhruti Patel, says that alcohol is seen as a less dangerous way to "release yourself" from despair, in addition to the fact that, unlike drugs, it is legal, available and not unusual for society. In this way, according to the expert, women feel less judged.

According to previous research, women are more sensitive to the negative effects of alcohol than men, even if the same amount is consumed.

Experts point to women's body composition, which has more fatty tissue and less water than men of similar weight, which leads to higher and more persistent blood alcohol concentrations. Women also have fewer enzymes that process alcohol. And their hormonal fluctuations are thought to play a role in how quickly alcohol breaks down.

Furthermore, women who drink develop a greater number of medical problems and at much lower alcohol levels than men. Women who drink less than two drinks a day increase their risk of dying from any cause, according to an analysis published in March.

From 2018, the death toll of women from alcohol increased dramatically, as it began to rise by a high coefficient of 15%./CNA
