Documentary: Adolf Hitler's DNA proves he only had one testicle

The Channel 4 documentary, "Hitler's DNA: A Dictator's Plan", features DNA specialist Professor Turi King, who has analysed samples taken from a bloodstain found on the fabric of the sofa where Hitler killed himself.

Failing to obtain new DNA samples from any of Hitler's surviving relatives in Austria and the US, the samples were tested against the DNA sample of a male relative of Hitler, previously collected by Belgian journalist Jean-Paul Mulders and historian Marc Vermeeren. This resulted in a perfect Y-chromosome match and revealed that Hitler carried a mutation in the PROK2 gene.

This is strongly linked to Kallmann syndrome, a genetic disorder that can lead to delayed puberty and, in some cases, micropenis. The mutation also usually causes one or both testicles to fail to develop normally, which would support rumors that the Nazi dictator was missing a testicle.

Discussing the findings, King told BBC Radio 4:

"I have some wonderful colleagues at the Pasteur Institute who discovered that he has a deletion in a gene that we know is strongly linked to a condition known as Kallmann syndrome, which is characterized by low testosterone levels, abnormal development of the sexual organs and in 5-10 percent of cases, a micropenis."

Elsewhere, the documentary reportedly reveals that genetic markers show that Hitler had a propensity for antisocial behavior and that he was not of Jewish origin, thus debunking the persistent myth.

Hitler's father, Alois, was an illegitimate child, and due to uncertainty about his father's identity, a conspiracy theory grew that the dictator's grandfather was Jewish./ CNA
