A group of students spent their summer vacation in a Swiss mountain to experiment with what life might be like inside a lunar base. The mission was also joined by a team from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

The BBC journalist interviewed the students and learned about some of their dreams of becoming astronauts.

"I remember when I was first trying to figure out that I wanted to be an astronaut, thinking, 'How do I do that?'" says Katie Mulry, a 24-year-old American student studying for a master's in aerospace engineering at the Institut Supérieur de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace in Toulouse, France. "I was looking at which university I could go to, what I could study. And really, there's no clear path."

Mulry is also a project leader at Asclepio, the world's first and largest international, student-led space initiative, which conducts simulated space missions every year.

She was part of the second Asclepio mission, in 2021-22, as an "analog astronaut", carrying out a simulated mission deep inside a Swiss mountain. As of 2024, she helped organize the Asclepio V mission.

Nine students from around the world participated in this mission. They spent more than two weeks isolated in the depths of the Gotthard military fortress, once a secret bunker, located in Ticino, Switzerland.

Students are imitating the stance as if they were on a moon base. Inspired by Greek mythology, they show that Apollo was the god of the Sun, archery, knowledge, prophecy, poetry, and music.

Legend has it that he flew through the sky in his golden chariot, drawn by horses. This elegant vision inspired Abe Silverstein, NASA's Director of Space Flight Development, to name the manned space flight program to the Moon "Apollo" in 1960.
