Australia now has a scary new creature: a horned "lucifer" bee.
The species, called Megachile (Hackeriapis) lucifer, was found in the state of Western Australia, Curtin University announced.

Researcher Kit Prendergast at the university's School of Molecular and Life Sciences discovered the bee while observing an endangered wildflower and was immediately drawn to the insect's unique appearance.
"The bee had these incredible little horns on its face. It's the first new member of this group of bees to be described in more than 20 years, which really shows how much life we ??still have to discover," the researcher said.
The researcher said DNA barcoding confirmed that the new species did not match any known bees in DNA databases.
She added that she hopes the discovery will raise awareness of the number of undiscovered species that may still be in Australia, particularly in areas threatened by climate change and mining. /CNA
