I met Dallandyshe Brahimaj (White) at the World Bektashi Grandmother. The swallow that everyone calls Dushka has a life of service in this holy place.
Dushka is 62 years old and throughout these years she has never stopped serving her brother, the World Grandfather of the Bektashi, Haxhi Dede Baba Edmond Brahimaj.
In appearance, Dushka is a woman of heavy stature, with a serious attitude. The first impact with the 62-year-old makes you think that the conversation with her will be short and without any emotion.
This thought lasted until Dushka began to tell me that everything connects him with faith. Good and bad go hand in hand with Dushka's journey on the path of faith. Born in 1962 in Brataj, Vlora, she remembers the time when she was a child as a normal but happy childhood.
In addition to the beautiful memories that he remembers, when he talks about that time it seems that something bothers him. As she holds a black and white photo, her face begins to wrinkle and her eyebrows darken. This is because in her mind like a tape that is played against her will she remembers and starts to tell about the time when her sister passed away.
He was only 14 years old when God tested the Brahimaj family with the loss of a 7-year-old girl.
"The house caught fire and she was suffocated by the smoke. It was an energy defect, it was December 26 and it was heated in a furnace. The house was filled with smoke, when I went I could not open the door. It's a trauma for me. I was not trusted. It was a Saturday, my mother had left me a few lek to pay the rent and after the rent I stood in line to get a kadaif. It only took so many minutes for that disaster to happen. I miss her, I wish I had her as a friend."
Since then, Dushkw's character has changed a lot. Born in Vlora but raised in Tirana, Dushka says that she graduated from 3 high schools, at that time schools that taught the trade. Industrial textile, tailoring and economics are the schools that gave Dushka the opportunity to work.
Faith could not be missing in the heart of a girl who comes from a prophetic family as she calls it. Dushka confesses that when they celebrated their holidays, they found pretexts such as birthdays so that they would not be spied on by the neighbors. "Meetings were usually held in private houses where sacrifices were also made, songs of Bektashism were sung."
When she talks about her faith, she doesn't expect the person in front of her to believe her, as she insists that you have to try the miracles of Bektashism to believe them.
Dushka blindly believes in her religion, she supports the strength of her faith in life experiences.
"In 1988, the doctors told my mother that if you have cancer, you only have 1 week to live. Baba Reshati made a sacrifice, which we found with a friend in the highlands of Kruja. The ram was cut and the lungs were brought to Baba Reshat, who said these words to my father: Merushja was saved, because the disease passed on to the ram."
With these words, Dushka tries to explain the importance of sacrifices. When you ask her about the daily challenges, Dushka's answer is that she has never encountered arguments as she has left such things in the hands of God.
Sinful people are cursed in 7 generations says Dushka. This sentence lets you understand that a bektashi is closely related to life within the principles.
Not to vomit, not to speak badly of others or to insult them are just some of the daily challenges for a Bektashi believer.
From the conversation with Dushka, he realizes that she is "Muhype". This term refers to a person who is spiritually committed and devoutly follows the instructions and teachings of religious leaders. When you pass through this stage, all sins are forgiven.
To become one, you don't need an oath or an inner call, not even to be a Bektashi believer, it's enough to be a pure person at heart with the desire to serve.
Dushka never misses the morning prayer, nor the evening, sunset prayer. Although some members of this tribe have served as spiritual leaders (fathers) in the Bektashi order, marriage relations with other faiths have also been established. Dushka shows that the relationship with her Orthodox sister-in-law is built on respect and love.
"I go to her for Easter, she wears a cross around her neck. There is nothing wrong, she is the daughter-in-law of Armand's younger brother. We have a very good relationship, he respects and respects me"
For Dushka, God is the reason why her mother got rid of the disease. For Dushka, God is the reason that even though at the age of 40 she united her life with a man to create a family. God for Dushka is the birth of her son. For this believer, God is her life, the trials and the good things she experienced and she shares them.
The 62-year-old says that there was chemistry between her and her husband from the first moment she saw him.
"I felt that he was the right one, there was chemistry and I loved him with all my soul" "I would have returned him as a Bektashi" - this is how Dushka says when I ask her what would happen if her partner was of another faith.
When she gave me this answer I understood the reason why she had never read the literature of other religions even out of curiosity. Dushka has a son from her marriage with Baba Reshat's nephew, whom she would like to serve God, but above all to be a good person.
Her son's name is Ali Akbar, which means, the great Ali. In addition to tireless service in the holy place, Dushka and her husband are also the owners of a restaurant.
Managing the family business and serving in Kryegyshata fill the days of 62-year-old Dallandyshe Brahimaj. Her service involves washing clothes, cooking and personal care for her brother Baba Mondi.
"Service is love."
We live in an age where information, including rumors or news, spreads at incredible speed. Platforms like social media, apps, websites are inevitable even for a believer. Dushka does not maintain a strong connection with social networks, but the network has a comment about the news from which it "comes".
"Let the dogs bark, the caravan moves forward," says Dushka, referring to the news that the name of the Bektashi Grandfather, Haxhi Dede Edmond Brahimaj, appeared in "SKY" conversations.
"I returned the comment to someone on Facebook, I wrote to him: Go meet him and then speak badly about Baba Mondi. Those who talk about him do not know him. It does not occur to me that a man who knows my brother can speak ill of him. An ignorant person can talk about someone without knowing him. I don't think a Bektashi journalist can write such news."
While trying to preserve the figure of her brother, the sister of Kryegyshi shows how the tradition of the Bektashi faith was continued by the blood of the Brahimaj family.
"The World Grandfather in the years 1948-1958, Dede Ahmetin, was my father's uncle. Another great-grandfather, Haxhi Dede Reshat Bardhi, was a dervish of Dede Ahmet Ahmataj. Baba Mondi was very attached to Baba Reshat, this made him follow this path."
For Dushka, the service he performs in the Grand Duchess is not something imposed. Born in a family where her brother continues the tradition of the ancestors, she feels privileged to be the sister of the Great Grandfather
Bektashi, Haxhi Dede Edmond Brahimaj. Although 62 years old, Baba Mondi's word for Dushka is a command and should not be contradicted as he knows everything better. For this woman, miracles and faith are related to spiritual experiences, signs of piety and the inheritance that her family has given her.
Dushka, a man of not much mouth, with his looks or facial expressions let you understand that Bektashism for him is not just a belief, but a way of living. Dallandyshe Brahimaj, the sister of the World Grandfather of the Bektashians, Haxhi Dede Baba Edmond Brahimaj, is the example that sometimes to believe with the heart, you need to see with the eyes./ CNA
