"Albania, the Maldives of Europe"/ Close to 10 million tourists throughout 2023
The year 2023 was "golden" as far as tourism is concerned....

The Nobel Prize in Physics for 2023 was won by three scientists who managed to develop a technique to understand the extremely fast movements of electrons, which were previously thought impossible to follow.
The winners are Pierre Agostini of Ohio State University in the US, Ferenc Krausz of the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics and Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Germany, and Anne L'Huillier from Lund University in Sweden.
With their experiments "they offered humanity new tools to explore the world of electrons inside atoms and molecules," said representatives of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, which announced the prize winners in Stockholm.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has announced 3 scientists as winners of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. The winners are: Mundzi G. Bawendi, Louis I. Bruce and Alexei Ekimov.
"The 2023 Nobel Prize in Chemistry goes to the discovery and development of quantum dots, nanoparticles that are so small that their size determines their properties," the academy said.
Nanoparticles and quantum dots are used in LED lights and television screens and can also be used to guide surgeons in removing cancerous tissue, among other things.

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for 2023 has been awarded to scientists Katalin Kariko and Drew Weissman, who created the mRNA technology that was used to create the COVID vaccines.
The technology was in experimental stages before the pandemic, but has now been used for millions of people around the world to protect them from COVID-19.
The same mRNA technology is being researched for other diseases, including cancer. The Nobel Prize Committee said: "The laureates contributed to the development of vaccines during one of the greatest threats to human health in modern times."
Vaccines train the immune system to recognize and fight viruses or bacteria. During the COVID pandemic, Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines were based on mRNA technology. mRNA technology instructs cells in the body to produce specific proteins. mRNA essentially uses our body and biological processes to treat diseases and prevent infections.

Jon Fosse is the winner of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Literature "for his innovative plays and prose that give voice to the unspeakable".
Fosse, born in 1959, is widely considered one of the most important writers of our time. For almost 40 years he has written novels, plays, poems, stories, essays and children's books.

American Harvard University professor Claudia Goldin won the 2023 Nobel Prize in Economics "for building a database that enables the analysis of women's labor market outcomes over the centuries," the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said.
Thanks to Claudia Goldin's groundbreaking research, we now know much more about the underlying factors and what barriers may need to be addressed in the future.
Goldin's research reveals the causes of change, as well as the main sources of the remaining gender gap.
"Globally, about 50 percent of women participate in the labor market compared to 80 percent of men, but women earn less and are less likely to reach the top of their careers," said the chairman of the Prize Committee in Economic Science, Jakob Svensson.
Goldin is the third woman to win a Nobel Prize in Economics since it was first awarded in 1969. In 2009, it won Elinor Ostrom and Esther Duflo in 2019.
The prestigious prize, officially named "Sveriges Riksbank Prize" in Economic Sciences in memory of Alfred Nobel, is the last of this year's Nobel prizes and is worth 11 million Swedish kroner.
Unlike other prizes, the economics prize was not established in Alfred Nobel's 1895 will, but by the Swedish Central Bank in his memory. The first winner was chosen in 1969.
Last year, the award was shared between three American economists, former head of the US Federal Reserve, Ben Bernanke, Douglas Diamond and Philip Dybvig, who "have significantly improved our understanding of the role of banks in the economy, especially during financial crises, as well as the way to regulate financial markets./ CNA
