The theatrical play "24 Hours from the Life of a Voter" was performed on the stage of the "Andon Zako Çajupi" Theater in Korça, bringing to the Korça audience a different work that combines political theater, satire, and cabaret elements.

A play that deals with the Albanian social and political reality through humor, irony and reflection. The work centers on the figure of the simple voter, the ordinary person, who throughout 24 hours faces pressures, disappointments and absurdities emanating from the system. Through satirical situations, the play reflects the individual's inability to find himself in a reality that often oppresses him, but without ever losing his sense of humor.

The director of the play, Driada Dervishi, considers this project as a beautiful artistic challenge, emphasizing that political theater in the form of cabaret is a genre that is little explored on Albanian stages. According to her, Albanian politics offers enough material and topics to be brought to the stage every day, addressing serious issues through humor, satire and irony.

"For me it was a very beautiful challenge, a political, satirical theater in the form of cabaret. It is a genre that has not been explored on Albanian stages. I think we have all the possibilities, especially since politics offers us daily dough to take topics, to put them on stage and to treat these serious topics by making humor. The show after Tirana, Korça where I find the opportunity to thank the wonderful audience for their hospitality, I really hope that soon we will be in Shkodër, Fier and other cities where it would be very nice for the journey to continue", - said the director.

The main role is played by the well-known actor Arben Derhemi, who through his character portrays a man who will live honestly and work, but who constantly faces the pressure of the system. According to him, facing reality through humor is a way to not give up, while the audience has received the show extremely well. One of the main messages conveyed is the expression "Let's laugh so we don't cry", as a reflection of the social situation.

"The portrayal of impossibility, of someone who wants to live by sweat, who never finds himself and is pressured by the system and everything that happens in such a place at every moment. And yet this character never loses his sense of humor because by thinking with humor, we do our best. The audience has received it extremely well, the comments are among the best for all of us. "Let's laugh so we don't cry", this is also the message", said Derhemi.

A special element of the show is the inclusion of musical pieces, which come in a chronological order, reflecting key moments from Albanian history, from the Renaissance period and the Declaration of Independence in 1912, to the 2025 elections.

"It was treated like a cabaret, it's a new thing for Albania, it gives a much better color to the work and the songs that come in chronological order from the 1912 Renaissance to the 2025 elections," the actor added.

The director of the Korça Theatre and also an actress in the play, Zamira Kita, is happy about the positive reception of the audience on both nights of the play. She emphasizes that humor is the main element that makes the play approachable for the audience, while through it important social and political issues are addressed. According to her, the main message that the troupe aims to convey is that of civic responsibility and participation in elections.

"I am very happy that the audience has received it very well on both days. The show is very beautiful. I am very happy to play with Arben Derhemi, Xhuliano Brisku, that we have the actor from Korça and Ermir Hoxhaj, that we have invited him as Arben. I believe that the audience has received the message and laughed a lot because it is known that this show has humor. Many issues are addressed, but what is most important and the message that we want to convey is "Vote" because it is we who determine our destinies, so the vote of each and every one of us", said Kita.

The play “24 Hours in the Life of a Voter” was received with applause and positive reactions from the Korça audience, confirming the need for different forms of theater that encourage reflection and civic awareness. After Tirana and Korça, the troupe hopes that the play will continue its journey to Shkodër, Fier and other cities in the country, turning the stage into a space for debate, humor and critical thinking./ CNA
