Italian journalist Roberto Saviano is now a well-known public figure due to his courageous denunciations of the Italian mafia, the control it exercises over certain economic structures in Italy and organized crime.

This Saturday, Saviano spoke on Ditmir Bushati's "Public Square" podcast about the relations between the Albanian and Italian mafias.

The journalist of the book "Gamorra" says that Albanian organized crime is very, very extensive and very complex and the relationship between the Albanian mafia and the Italian mafia is one, as he describes them as a "single fist".

"I feel like saying that the place where Albanian criminality is much stronger than elsewhere is London. The United Kingdom is the country of choice for Albanian criminal groups and there Albanian crime operates in full autonomy".

Saviano strongly emphasizes the need to discuss crime in order to confront the phenomenon and not to hide it from the public debate.

"What surprises me every time I deal with the Albanian world, which I love very much, or even when I go to Albania, is to hear that the Albanian mafia is talked about much more abroad than in Albania. Much more abroad than in Kosovo. Because of all this, organized Kosovar and Albanian crime as well as Albanian-Macedonian crime is very strong. Greater Albania was not achieved in politics, but was achieved through crime. All these elements, unfortunately, are little mentioned. It is enough to see the publications on the Albanian mafia.
