It was destined for Britain/ Yacht full of Albanians is stopped, 5 people in

Five people have been arrested after a yacht carrying seven people to the UK illegally was stopped off the south coast of England.

In collaboration with the National Crime Agency (NCA), Border Force officers stopped the yacht as it arrived at Chichester Marina, West Sussex, on the evening of May 25.

Two crew members, a 42-year-old Briton and a 25-year-old Albanian national, were arrested on suspicion of facilitating illegal immigration to the UK.

Authorities also identified three other people, a 38-year-old British man and two Albanians, aged 24 and 32, who were suspected of having gone to meet the vessel ashore. They were arrested in connection with migrant smuggling.

All five people were questioned by NCA investigators following their arrest. Three of them were released on bail pending further enquiries, while the two Albanian nationals, aged 25 and 32, remain in custody for breaching immigration laws.

The seven people found on the yacht, all Albanian citizens, will be processed by British immigration authorities.

British Minister for Border Security and Asylum, Alex Norris, stressed that authorities will use every legal power to stop people smuggling networks. /CNA
