Zelenskyy dismisses the heads of the security service and the prosecution

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed the Prosecutor General and the head of the State Security Service. These dismissals come after reports that dozens of people from the security services are now working against Ukrainian interests in the territories occupied by Russia.

Through the decrees signed on July 17, the Prosecutor General, Iryna Venediktova, and Ivan Bakanov, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, known by the abbreviation SBU, have been dismissed.

Në deklaratë, Zelenskyy, pa përmendur me emër Venediktovën dhe Bakanovin, tha se “veprimet specifike dhe çdo mosveprim i zyrtarëve në sektorin e sigurisë dhe në agjencitë e zbatimit të ligjit do të vlerësohen”.

Ai tha se “deri sot, 651 procedime kriminale janë regjistruar sa i përket tradhtisë dhe aktiviteteve kolaboracioniste të punonjësve të Zyrës së Prokurorit, organeve të hetuesisë dhe agjencive të tjera të zbatimit të ligjit”.

“Në veçanti, mbi 60 punonjës së Zyrës së Prokurorit dhe SBU-së gjenden në territoret e pushtuara dhe tani po punojnë kundër shtetit tonë”, tha Zelenskyy.

"Each of these questions will receive the right answer. "Today, I have decided to remove the General Prosecutor and the head of the Security Service of Ukraine," said Zelenskyy.

The duties of the General Prosecutor's Office have been handed over to Oleksiy Symonenko, one of the decrees states. Symonenko has until now been the Deputy Prosecutor General.

Bakanov, a friend and former business partner of Zelenskyy, has led the SBU since August 2019, while Venediktova became the Prosecutor General in March 2020.

Neither Zelenskyy, nor in the signed decrees, it is not indicated who will take the leadership of the SBU./ REL
