A Ukrainian plane, which was transporting ammunition from Serbia to Bangladesh, crashed late Saturday near the city of Kavala in the northern part of Greece. The eight Ukrainian crew members lost their lives.

Ukrainian airline Meridian confirmed the deaths of the crew members. Serbian Defense Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said the Ukrainian plane was carrying mortars and training shells produced by the Serbian defense industry and that the buyer of the cargo was Bangladesh.

“Aeroplani kishte një ngarkesë 11.5 ton me produkte të kompanisë Valir, e liçensuar për aktivitete të tregtisë së jashtme të pajisjeve ushtarake dhe armatimeve si dhe produkteve të tjera të fushës së mbrojtjes”.

Zoti Stefanovic tha se avioni ishte nisur nga Nishi rreth orës 9 të mbrëmjes sipas orës lokale dhe do të ndalej në Aman, Riad dhe Ahmedabad përpara destinacionit përfundimtar në Daka.

Greek state broadcaster ERT said the plane's signal disappeared shortly after the pilot asked Greek authorities for an emergency landing due to technical problems. Amateur footage posted on the ERT television website shows the plane engulfed in flames plummeting before crashing into the ground and exploding. VOA
