Prime Minister Robert Fico is out of danger for his life. His condition remains serious. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kali?ák gave details on the state of health of the Slovak Prime Minister.

"Based on the advice of doctors, we can conclude that the patient is currently out of danger for life. His condition remains very serious and he needs a long time and rest to recover. We firmly believe that everything will go in the right direction," he said.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that the transfer of the Prime Minister to another hospital in the near future is neither planned nor possible. Considering the prime minister's stable health condition with a positive prognosis, he announced that the hospital will inform about the situation with regular statements in the following days.

After the assassination, Fico underwent a five-hour operation at the university hospital in Banska Bystrica. On Friday, doctors then performed another procedure to remove dead tissue from the gunshot wounds.

The attacker, who shot Fico after the government meeting in Handlova, was remanded in custody by the court on Saturday. The attacker, 71-year-old writer and activist Juraj Cintula, will serve 25 years in prison or life imprisonment for attempted murder. / CNA
