Attacks in Syria

Turkey has carried out attacks in northern Syria on command centers operated by the Syrian army and Kurdish forces, killing three people, a Britain-based monitoring group said.

The strikes were carried out near the Kurdish-held border town of Kobane, targeting positions of the Syrian army and the Syrian Democratic Forces, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

According to this organization, the three victims were dressed in the uniform of the Syrian army.

Several other soldiers were also injured, some in critical condition, the Observer said.

Last month, the Syrian government said it would respond with direct strikes if Turkey attacked its forces.

The warning came after Turkey carried out an attack in Kobane killing three Syrian soldiers in August.

Turkey has carried out a series of offensives targeting Kurdish forces and the Islamic State militant group since 2016, but these offensives have rarely resulted in the killing of Syrian regime fighters.

Ankara considers the Kurdish fighters terrorists and constantly carries out attacks in the areas in Syria controlled by them./ REL
