Trump issues another order/Doubles tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum

US President Donald Trump has issued another order doubling tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum from 25% to 50%.

In the latest twist in a deepening trade war, Trump says he is in retaliation for the 25% tariffs Ontario is imposing on electricity it sends to northern US states.

Trump says the tariffs will begin Wednesday, adding that he will declare "a national electricity emergency" in those states.

The latest escalation comes after the worst day of 2025 for US markets, fueled by fears of President Donald Trump's aggressive tariffs on America's biggest trading partners.

When asked about a possible recession in an interview on Sunday, Trump said the economy was in a "transition period."/ CNA
