To Stoltenberg-Erdogan: Sweden has fulfilled the conditions for NATO membership

The head of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, has called on Turkey to change its approach to Sweden, in order to join NATO.

According to him, Stockholm has addressed Turkey's security concerns.

"Sweden has taken concrete steps to avoid Turkey's concerns," Stoltenberg told reporters after the meeting with Erdogan.

"Sweden has fulfilled all obligations".

Why is Turkey blocking Sweden's entry into NATO?

The head of NATO participated on Saturday in the ceremony for Erdogan's next 5-year term.

NATO member Turkey is blocking Sweden's membership in the alliance.

It and Hungary are the only member states that have not ratified Sweden's application.

Finland, with which Sweden has applied for membership, joined the alliance in April.

Erdogan has accused Sweden of turning into a haven for "terrorists", especially for members of the Kurdistan People's Party (PKK).

This group is on the black list of Turkey and its western allies./ CNA.al
