Kremlin: Western journalists cannot be accredited for the economic forum
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov

The Kremlin said on Saturday that journalists from "unfriendly countries" will not be allowed to participate in the International Economic Forum, which is being held in St. Petersburg.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has used this forum over the years to attract global investment to Russia.

"This time, a decision was made not to accredit publishers from unfriendly countries," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the TASS news agency.

"The interest in the forum is always great, all other journalists will be present", said Peskov.

"Unfriendly countries", is the definition used by Moscow to describe those countries that have sanctioned it for the war started in Ukraine, in February of last year.

The Kremlin has repeated several times that it will not "close" the window to Europe - which Peter the Great of Russia tried to open 300 years ago - despite the recent sanctions.

The war in Ukraine started on February 24, 2022.

Russian President Vladimir Putin calls the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia, hitting the economy of this country with harsh sanctions.

As a result of the war, thousands of people have died and millions more have been displaced from their homes./ REL
