London Summit/ Merz: Urgent need for progress in Pristina-Belgrade dialogue

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated at the Western Balkans summit in London that there is an urgent need to advance the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue.

"We urgently need to see progress in the normalization process between Pristina and Belgrade. We need the faithful and full implementation of the agreements you have already reached. Around this table you will find countries ready to support, including my country, Germany, but we need your commitment."

I am pleased that we have also agreed on a common position on reconciliation and good neighborly relations. However, now we must give life to this, because the future of the six Western Balkan countries lies in the European Union and today it has been confirmed once again that the Berlin Process is helping them progress on this path.

"How long it will take to get there is in the hands of each country itself. Reforms in these countries are key to this. As the European Union, we cannot and will not make any concessions here. Moreover, this would not be in the interest of the future of the candidate countries," he added./ CNA
