Russia carries out a series of airstrikes against Kiev

Russia carried out several waves of drone strikes targeting Kiev on Monday morning, as Ukrainian air defenses said they had successfully defended the Ukrainian capital from the attacks that lasted five hours.

All drones launched by Russia towards Kiev were either destroyed by defense systems or neutralized by electronic warfare equipment, Serhiy Popko, the head of the Kiev military administration, wrote on Telegram.

According to preliminary information, there are no casualties or damage, he added. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said shrapnel from a downed drone fell on a residential building and emergency crews were working there.

The Ukrainian air force said on Monday it shot down 67 of 73 drones and one of three missiles fired by Russia during the strikes.
