Poland is calling on the European Union to launch a campaign in the United States to raise awareness among the American public about the importance of transatlantic relations.

In a document prepared for a meeting of EU foreign ministers on Monday, Poland calls for proactive action ahead of the November 5 US presidential election to counter what it describes as Russian "disinformation". which aims to cause a split between the EU and Washington.

"At this critical moment in history, it is imperative that we collectively take swift and powerful action to strengthen the transatlantic relationship through strategic communication in the United States, regarding the EU," says the document provided by the agency. Reuters news.

"This means stepping up efforts against disinformation and, most importantly, preventing Russian disinformation and undertaking campaigns that show the reality of Europe and the advantages of diplomacy, collective security and open society," the document continues.

The Kremlin has said it will not interfere in November's US election and has rejected US allegations that Russia orchestrated campaigns to influence the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.

According to the document filed by Poland, Russian state media and Kremlin-linked online accounts are spreading and amplifying false information about immigration and border security in the United States.

"We must be prepared for an escalation of these efforts, as eroding support for Ukraine remains Russia's top priority.

We need to remind the American public, especially the younger generation, of the results our partnership has brought to the American economy," the letter says.

Poland has said it has been the target of multiple Russian attempts at destabilization and election interference because of its role in supporting Ukraine, providing military aid to the neighboring country, allegations Russia has denied.

"We need to raise the awareness of the American public about the extent of European aid to Ukraine which has saved Ukrainian lives," the document says, referring to US presidential candidate Donald Trump's claims that European aid to Ukraine was much more smaller than that of the USA.

Since Russian aggression in Ukraine began in 2022, the EU has given Ukraine 107 billion euros and promised another 50 billion euros over the next four years. The American Council on Foreign Relations estimates that US support for Ukraine reaches the figure of 107 billion dollars./VOA
