Five police officers appear in court today after the death of a 27-year-old man

Five Kosovo Police officers will appear today before the Basic Court in Pristina, Lipjan branch, on suspicion of involvement in an intervention that ended with the death of a 27-year-old young man.

The case occurred in the early hours of July 7 in Lipjan, while in the evening all five police officers who dealt with the case were arrested, under suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of "negligent homicide".

Police said the deceased, identified as Agon Zejnullahu, was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and attacking vehicles and passersby when he was stopped by law enforcement authorities.

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has called for full transparency, institutional responsibility and uncompromising justice regarding the circumstances of the death of a 27-year-old man in Lipjan, following his arrest by police officers.

The acting Minister of Internal Affairs of Kosovo, Xhelal Sveçla, has said that investigations are being conducted with maximum intensity and that anyone found guilty of the young man's death will receive the deserved punishment.

From the footage shared on social media, which is said to be from the case in Lipjan, the victim appears with his hands tied and on his knees, while he is then transported by ambulance.

The family has stated that they are disappointed with the lack of transparency from the authorities so far.

The victim's brother, speaking to several media outlets in Pristina on July 8, said that the family members have not received any explanation from the police, while the deceased's body "had many marks and fractures."/ REL
