Bus crashes, 16 people die in Mexico

At least 16 people were killed and 36 others injured after a bus crashed Tuesday on the Cuacnopalan-Oaxaca highway in central Mexico, officials said.

The bus, which was carrying locals and immigrants, collided with a trailer truck on the highway near the border between the states of Oaxaca and Puebla, the Oaxaca Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.

At least eight men and eight women, including a minor, lost their lives in the traffic accident. The injured were transferred to hospitals in Puebla for medical assistance.

The cause of the crash is unknown, but the prosecutor's office has said it will conduct an expert-led investigation to unravel the unfolding events that led to the crash and determine whether anyone should be held responsible./ CNA
